Malawi has initiated a mission to share its technical expertise with Seychelles to enhance meteorological services.
Malawi’s Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Chipiliro Mpinganjira, has expressed appreciation for the Seychelles Government’s commitment to this project.
Mpinganjira made these comments while leading a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) on a focused learning and working visit.
Seychelles’ Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy, and Natural Resources, Marie-May Jeremie, commended Malawi’s proactive stance in building resilience against increasing climate challenges.
This benchmarking mission is part of Malawi’s strategy to fulfill its international responsibilities as a member of the World Meteorological Organization and a contracting state of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
The department provides severe weather warnings through real-time alerts concerning hazards such as heavy rainfall and flash floods to assist national disaster management teams.
Additionally, the state agency publishes agrometeorological bulletins, including a specialized 10-day report that offers data on rainfall, temperature, and crop impacts to enhance national food security.
Furthermore, the agency supports aviation safety operations by providing terminal forecasts, flight path briefings, and weather reports for Air Traffic Control, ensuring compliance with international standards.
