Dar es Salaam, June 28, 2026— President Samia Suluhu Hassan has met with Nigerian tycoon and Dangote Group’s Founder and Chairman Aliko Dangote at State House, Dar es Salaam, to discuss expanding investment opportunities across multiple strategic sectors in Tanzania.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communications, State House, the talks reviewed past and ongoing cooperation between the government and the Dangote Group, while exploring new avenues for investment targeting both the Tanzanian economy and the wider East African market.
Dangote Group already runs one of Tanzania’s largest industrial projects — the $500 million Dangote Cement plant in Mtwara — which has been operating since 2015 with a production capacity of 3 million tonnes per year. The plant supplies both the local market and exports to neighboring countries, making it a key player in Tanzania’s industrialization drive.
Dangote commended Tanzania’s business climate, stating: “We have found a very good environment for investment in Tanzania and we are ready to cooperate with the government to implement all kinds of beneficial projects.”
President Samia welcomed the commitment from the Nigerian tycoon and directed relevant ministries to create a dedicated framework to fast-track investment procedures. She emphasized the government’s goal of simplifying laws, regulations, and processes to attract more private sector capital.
Analysts note that beyond cement, Dangote Group has previously signaled interest in fertilizer, sugar, and petrochemical projects in Tanzania, sectors that align with the government’s priorities on agriculture, industrial growth, and job creation.
The statement noted that the government remains open to collaboration with the private sector to attract investment that creates jobs, advances industrial growth, promotes technology transfer, and delivers tangible benefits to Tanzanians.
The meeting underscores Tanzania’s push to position itself as a leading investment destination in East Africa through ongoing business climate reforms.
