– Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, has arrived in Guinea-Bissau to lead a high-level ECOWAS delegation comprising Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers.
The mission aims to engage the Transitional Government of Guinea-Bissau in support of a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic transition following the military takeover of 26 November 2025.
During the visit, the ECOWAS delegation held frank and constructive discussions with the transitional authorities on the roadmap towards restoring constitutional order and democratic governance.
“Our message was clear: the people of Guinea-Bissau deserve a peaceful and inclusive transition. ECOWAS stands firmly with them,” Minister Kabba stated.
The delegation also commended General Horta Inta’A and the Transitional Government for their commitment to a brief transition period, with general elections scheduled for 6 December 2026.
The leadership of the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, together with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal, continues to strengthen regional efforts aimed at supporting Guinea-Bissau’s return to constitutional democracy.
ECOWAS has maintained close engagement with developments in Guinea-Bissau, consistently advocating for a swift return to constitutional rule, a time-bound transition, and the restoration of a civilian-led government.
Following the political crisis that led to the military takeover and the suspension of the electoral process, the Transitional Authority has been entrusted with managing state affairs, facilitating national dialogue, and organizing credible, peaceful, and inclusive elections later this year.
