HARARE — Zimbabwean value-chain technology firm Drone Solutions on Thursday unveiled a state-of-the-art drone-powered medical logistics system designed to drastically cut delivery times for critical health supplies, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
The company said the new system can transport essential medical commodities—including vaccines, blood products, pathology samples, anti-rabies treatments, and maternal health medicines—in under 30 minutes, a significant improvement from traditional road-based delivery systems.
The drone network is tailored to serve rural communities, farming zones, mining areas, and regions with poor or damaged road infrastructure, where access to timely healthcare delivery has long been a challenge.
“Deliveries that used to take hours by road can now be completed in less than 30 minutes,” the company said in a statement. “The system is designed to ensure clinical precision and zero spoilage of sensitive medical supplies.”
Drone Solutions emphasized that the technology will be especially critical during Zimbabwe’s rainy season, when flooding often disrupts road transport networks, leaving many communities isolated.

Beyond Zimbabwe, the company is planning to expand the platform into neighboring countries, including Malawi, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as part of a broader strategy to build an integrated cross-border medical logistics network across Southern and Central Africa.
The initiative is also expected to create about 200 jobs, spanning roles such as drone pilots, hub operators, battery technicians, and route planners. Workforce development will be supported by a local Drone Training Institute licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ), aimed at building domestic expertise in drone aviation.
The launch marks a significant step in leveraging technology to strengthen healthcare delivery systems in Africa, where logistical bottlenecks have historically hindered access to life-saving medical supplies.
By reducing delivery times and improving reliability, drone-based logistics could play a transformative role in bridging healthcare gaps, particularly in underserved and remote communities.
