Zimbabwe to Celebrate Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Through the   Francophone Week Launch

     H-Town is about to celebrate the richness and diversity of the French language during the Francophone Week, from March 7 to 22, 2026.

 The annual event, which highlights the French language and Francophone cultures around the world, offers a platform for exchange and intercultural dialogue for culture lovers.

Organized by the Alliance Française de Harare in partnership with 10 embassies   namely France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Romania, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Greece and Serbia , the Francophone week promises a series of exciting activities celebrating the linguistic and cultural diversity of the French-speaking world.

  The festivities include conference, film screenings, exhibition, live music, workshops, activities for schools and even some gastronomy.

  Through the  programme , the organizers aim to highlight the essential role played by the French language in bringing people and cultures closer together, thus promoting mutual understanding and respect for differences.

  “La Francophonie is a melting pot of cultural and linguistic diversity, and the Francophone Week is the ideal opportunity to celebrate this richness,” says Fanny Gauthier, Director of the Alliance Française.

 Among a host of events, there will be five  highlights of La Francophonie 2026: the screening of   seven films from different countries from the 7 to the 20 of March, The Mixx Concert on the 14 of March, and the Buffet de La Francophonie.

From March 7 to 20, audiences will have the opportunity to discover a varied selection of films from different countries, all with English subtitles.

 There will also be  something for all tastes and ages, such as  family films, dramas, romances, documentaries and even science fiction.

Screening will take place at the Alliance Française, and admission is completely free.

Arthur Bacon  from France, X Freed  from DRC and   X Nasibo Mokoomba from Zimbabwe will perform on  Saturday 14 March from  6pm at Alliance Française.

 A fresh twist on the guinguette spirit,  French accordion meets Zimbabwean and regional sounds in a bold cross-cultural set.

 Expect live mashups, surprise moments and genre-bending collaborations come curious, leave dancing. Dance floor open.

On Thursday 19th March, the  Alliance Française will host  a night dedicated to laughter!  At the the “Swiss-Zim Comedy Night: No Laughing Matter”  which will bring together top comedians from Switzerland and Zimbabwe.

 The  France Embassy in Harare said whether you’re a fan of witty Swiss self-deprecation, sharp-local comedy or high-energy stand-up, the  event promises to immerse people  in the rich and universal world of Francophone humor.

The French International School in Harare will also welcome 660 students from 44 schools, alongside 88 French teachers, for a two-day celebration form 19  to  20 March  of music and language.

  Aligned with the Zim-FLE program run by the French Embassy in Zimbabwe, the event highlights the strength of Franco-Zimbabwean cooperation and the dynamism of French learners across the country.

The  France Embassy said two inspiring days of creativity, sharing, and Francophonie are coming up.

FRANCOLICIOUS, a  Francophone Food Buffet Buffet De La Francophonie will be hosted on  Sunday 22 March also

 The Francophone world is said to be  rich in cultures and cuisines.
