Preparations are already gaining momentum as Côte d’Ivoire gears up for the historic 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the country’s diplomatic mission in the United States has taken a key step to ensure the national team receives strong backing when the tournament begins across North America.
Leading the effort is Côte d’Ivoire’s Ambassador to the United States, Ibrahima Touré, who has pledged to mobilize Ivorians living across America to rally behind the national team as it prepares to compete on football’s biggest stage. The ambassador recently led a joint delegation from the Ivorian Embassy in Washington and the Ministry of Sports on an exploratory mission to Philadelphia, one of the host cities where the Elephants will play their group-stage matches.
The visit focused on evaluating logistical arrangements and infrastructure that will host the team during the tournament. The delegation toured Lincoln Financial Field, the major stadium selected to host two group matches for the Elephants on June 14 and June 25, 2026, where Côte d’Ivoire will face Ecuador and Curaçao respectively. Officials also inspected Subaru Park, which has been designated as the team’s training facility during their stay in the region, as well as the historic Hotel Du Pont, identified as the accommodation for the Ivorian delegation.
The mission underscored the seriousness with which Côte d’Ivoire is approaching the upcoming tournament. With the expanded competition set to take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the country is determined to ensure its players arrive in an environment that allows them to perform at their best while being supported by a strong presence from the Ivorian diaspora.
Côte d’Ivoire heads into the global competition as one of Africa’s ten flagbearers and is widely considered among the continent’s brightest hopes. The Elephants boast a squad filled with players competing at some of the most prestigious clubs across Europe’s top leagues, giving the team the experience, depth and quality needed to challenge the world’s best sides.
The national team has also benefited from consistent backing from President Alassane Ouattara, who has been a strong supporter of the Elephants and a champion of sports development in the country. His government has continued to invest in football and national pride around the team, particularly following the country’s recent football successes and growing reputation as a powerhouse in African football.

Ambassador Touré emphasized that the Ivorian community in the United States will play a vital role in creating an atmosphere of home support for the team thousands of miles away from Abidjan. He expressed confidence that Ivorians across America will come together to cheer the Elephants, turning stadiums into pockets of orange, white and green during the tournament.
As preparations gather pace and excitement builds, Côte d’Ivoire is not only preparing its players for the competition but also mobilizing a global network of supporters determined to see the Elephants roar loudly on football’s biggest stage. With talent spread across Europe’s elite clubs, strong government backing, and a committed diaspora ready to fill the stands, Côte d’Ivoire carries one of Africa’s most promising hopes for a memorable run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
