FREETOWN, Jan 15- President Babadi Kamara has departed for Morocco to attend the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2026 final and take part in high-level engagements with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), SLFA officials said.
Kamara is travelling to Rabat, where the AFCON 2026 final will be contested between Senegal and host nation Morocco, one of the most anticipated fixtures on the African football calendar.
Beyond attending the final, Kamara is scheduled to hold an in-person meeting on Jan. 16 with CAF President Patrice Motsepe, alongside other presidents of CAF member associations. The meeting is expected to focus on the future of African football, including development frameworks, governance reforms and enhanced collaboration among national associations.
The visit highlights Sierra Leone’s growing engagement in continental football affairs at a time when CAF is advancing initiatives aimed at strengthening competitions, improving infrastructure and raising administrative standards across the continent.
Kamara’s participation in the AFCON final and CAF leadership meeting underscores the SLFA’s strategy to position Sierra Leonean football within key continental decision-making spaces and to pursue long-term development opportunities for the sport.
The SLFA said the engagements form part of its broader vision to build strategic partnerships and support sustainable football growth at both national and grassroots levels.
