Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah was present at the official launch of Creative DNA Malawi, a project designed to celebrate and elevate Malawi’s fashion identity.
The initiative, spearheaded by acclaimed designer Lily Alfonso, seeks to highlight the country’s rich cultural heritage through innovative fashion designs.
Supported by the British Council, the project aims to provide resources and exposure for local designers, positioning Malawi’s fashion industry as a driver of economic and cultural growth.
Speaking at the event, Lily Alfonso stressed that Malawian creatives possess extraordinary talent that, if nurtured properly, could contribute significantly to the nation’s economic development.
She urged both government and private sector stakeholders to increase investment in fashion, noting that the industry remains underdeveloped despite its potential to create jobs and promote entrepreneurship.
Alfonso also pointed out that designers often face challenges such as limited infrastructure, lack of exposure, and inadequate financial backing, which hinder the growth of the local fashion sector.

Vice President Ansah praised the initiative, highlighting its role in empowering young designers and showcasing Malawi’s unique cultural narratives to both national and international audiences.
She called on all stakeholders to collaborate in creating a supportive environment for the creative industry, emphasizing that fostering local talent can have far-reaching benefits for Malawi’s economy and cultural influence.
