President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has returned to Malawi from the Republic of South Africa through Bakili Muluzi International Airport in Blantyre.
Upon his arrival, President Mutharika walked on a red carpet laid out in his honour at the airport.
He was accorded military honours as members of the Malawi Defence Force played the national anthem while standing at attention.
President Mutharika was accompanied by the First Lady, Madame Gertrude Mutharika.
The president had departed Malawi on 1st December this year through the same airport for what was described as a private visit.
Officials clarified that the trip to South Africa was personal and not related to any official government business.
Among the senior figures who received Professor Mutharika on arrival was Minister of Foreign Affairs George Chaponda.

Veteran politician Kamlepo Kalua was also present at the airport to welcome the Head of state. President Mutharika’s return attracted public and political interest, reflecting his continued prominence in Malawi’s national affairs.
The arrival marked the end of his private visit abroad and his re-entry into the country amid an active political climate.
