Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah is in Angola after arriving late Saturday to take part in key continental and international summits that are expected to shape Africa–Europe cooperation for years to come.
Her delegation’s touchdown at Dr. Antonio Agostinho Agostinho Neto International Airport in Icolo e Bengo province was greeted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. George Chaponda, Malawi’s Ambassador to Angola Margaret Constance Kamoto, and a team of senior Malawian and Angolan officials.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the upcoming 7th African Union–European Union Summit is designed to deepen collaboration between the two regions on a wide array of shared priorities, including peacebuilding, governance reforms, global diplomacy, economic progress, migration management, and the movement of people.
During the meetings, Dr. Ansah is expected to brief partner countries on Malawi’s newly intensified efforts to address the nation’s pressing crises involving food shortages, fuel constraints, fertilizer access, forex pressures, and pharmaceutical supply gaps.
The summit also marks a major milestone — a quarter-century of AU–EU partnership — underscoring long-term cooperation across political, economic, and development fronts.
Angolan President João Lourenço and European Council President António Costa will jointly preside over the sessions.
Other prominent figures at the event include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and African Union Chair Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, both representing their respective institutions.
This year’s meetings are unified under the guiding theme: Promoting peace and prosperity through effective multilateralism, a message that reflects the urgency of coordinated global action.
