The 2025 Cabinet Retreat kicked off in Mangochi this morning, with Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah officially opening the event.
Leaders were urged to prioritise unity and bold decision-making as Malawi seeks to achieve long-term transformation and development.
Speakers highlighted the critical role of people-centred leadership in ensuring that government policies and programmes address the needs of all citizens.
Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa, UN Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Regional Director for Africa, addressed delegates on the importance of discipline, innovation, and collaborative partnerships in driving national progress.
She stressed that coordinated efforts across ministries and agencies are essential for translating policy into tangible benefits for Malawians.
The retreat provides a space for ministers and experts to examine key strategic priorities, including sustainable economic growth, social development, and good governance.

UNDP reaffirmed its support for Malawi’s transformation agenda, pledging continued assistance to build a resilient and inclusive future.
Discussions during the retreat emphasised the need to embed citizen-focused approaches in policymaking and decision-making processes.
Ministers committed to strengthening collaboration and accountability in implementing programmes that promote development and prosperity across the country.
