The Lilongwe Resident Magistrate Court has granted police permission to conduct a search at the residence of former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
The approval follows a formal request by the Malawi Police Service seeking authorization to enter the former president’s home located in Area 10 in Lilongwe.
According to an official letter issued by the court, law enforcement officers have been granted legal authority to search the premises to aid ongoing investigations.

The search is linked to a case involving four German Shepherd dogs that reportedly went missing from Kamuzu Palace.
Police investigators believe that inspecting the former president’s residence may uncover information relevant to the disappearance of the dogs.
The warrant emphasizes that the search must be conducted strictly within the bounds of the law and in pursuit of evidence that could assist the investigation.
Authorities say the case forms part of a broader inquiry into management of state property during the recent transition of power.
The police are expected to proceed with the search as part of efforts to establish the whereabouts of the missing security dogs.

The development has sparked widespread public interest, given the sensitivity of searching a former head of state’s residence.
Law enforcement officials have urged the public to remain calm, stressing that the investigation is routine and aimed at uncovering the truth.
More details are expected to emerge as police continue their probe into the disappearance of the Kamuzu Palace dogs.
