President Peter Mutharika has pledged to revamp the rehabilitation program for military camps housing veteran soldiers nationwide.
This initiative aims to provide proper accommodation for veterans and their families.
The President made this announcement during the launch of the Flag Week of the Poppy Appeal at Page House in Mangochi.
During the event, Mutharika honored the sacrifices of Malawian soldiers who dedicated their lives to maintaining peace and stability.
He encouraged the public to support the welfare of veterans and their families through fundraising initiatives.
To demonstrate his commitment, Mutharika donated K5 million to the veteran soldiers.
General Henry Odillo, Chairperson of the Veterans and Ex-Service League of Malawi, praised Mutharika’s dedication to improving the lives of retired soldiers and families of fallen heroes.
Odillo highlighted challenges faced by veterans, including inadequate housing and limited medical care.
The Poppy Week aims to raise over K300 million to support veterans’ welfare across the country.
