Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, has been unanimously elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).

The election took place during the 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the IAP in Singapore. This achievement is an important step for Kenya and Africa in global prosecutorial leadership.

Mr. Ingonga’s appointment comes just over a year after his election as President of the Africa Association of Prosecutors (APA) in July 2024, during its 17th Annual Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco.

It also follows Kenya’s successful hosting of the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) in Mombasa in July 2025 under his leadership.

Observers have hailed the election as a major recognition of Africa’s growing influence in shaping international justice.

This shows Kenya’s active role in improving global prosecutorial standards, encouraging cooperation, and tackling new challenges in the justice sector.

Mr. Ingonga welcomed the appointment and promised to carry out his duties with integrity and professionalism.

"I am humbled by this election and the responsibility that comes with it. Prosecutors play a critical role in the fair administration of justice, and this opportunity allows us to exchange experiences, embrace best practices, and discharge our mandate with integrity, professionalism, and firmness,” he said

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) welcomed the election, extending gratitude to the IAP for its confidence in Ingonga’s leadership.

The ODPP reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, international collaboration, and prosecutorial excellence.
