His Royal Majesty the Fon Ngum IV of Oku recently embarked on an official visit to Europe, with significant stops in Belgium and Germany. This visit was a remarkable journey of cultural diplomacy, aimed at strengthening the bonds between Oku and Europe, and promoting the rich heritage of Oku on the international stage.
In Tervuren, Belgium, His Majesty and his delegation met with the Director of the Africa Museum. This meeting was a pivotal moment in exploring a cultural partnership focused on several key areas:
- The loan of cultural items for global exhibitions
- Joint research and publications on Oku traditions
- Capacity building and staff training
- Cultural and artistic exchange programs
- Co-created exhibitions and digital archives

These initiatives are set to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Oku’s traditions and cultural heritage.
The visit continued to Stuttgart, Germany, where His Majesty was honored to visit the Linden Museum. This museum is one of Europe’s leading ethnological institutions and has a historic relationship with the Oku Palace.

The visit reaffirmed this relationship and marked a renewed commitment to cultural cooperation. Key areas of focus included digital access to collections, capacity building, youth exchange, research, and ethical dialogue on heritage and restitution.

A notable highlight of the visit was the replica of the Oku Fon’s Palace frontage, which stands proudly within the Linden Museum. This powerful symbol represents the shared history and enduring legacy of Oku culture abroad.
Together, Oku and Europe move forward in strengthening mutual understanding and celebrating the global relevance of their traditions. This collaboration is a testament to the enduring bonds between Oku and Europe, and the shared commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

This journey not only promotes Oku’s rich heritage on the international stage but also strengthens museum practices and deepens cultural ties between Oku and Europe. The future looks bright for this cultural partnership, as both sides continue to work together in celebrating and preserving their shared heritage.
