LEBIALEM, Cameroon – A moment of pure joy unfolded on the second day of LECUDO-USA’s free health campaign in Fontem, as a newborn baby girl entered the world—marking a historic first since the initiative began.

Faced with the ongoing crisis, many women in the Fondom had turned to the traditional way of delivery or moving to longer destinations like Dschang just to give birth. But thanks to this medical outreach, a mother not only received free, quality care but also delivered her baby most remarkably.

With 594 medical cases treated on day two, the successful delivery was added to the list of life-changing interventions by the medical team. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the new mother, Aminkeng Christabel, shared her experience.

She said: “I arrived very early, hoping the campaign would help me and my baby. The care I received from the midwife and her team was nothing short of divine. I delivered like a Hebrew woman—guided by angels. That’s why I decided to name my child after the midwife and the president of LECUDO-USA.”

Beyond the safe delivery, she was astonished by the affordability. “I was asked to pay only 25 francs for my delivery, which was shocking because I expected a bigger bill. But even that wasn’t taken from me! The kindness of this team has left me speechless. I will forever be grateful,” she added.

A Medical Team Committed to Saving Lives

Midwife assistant Atemkeng Esther described the moment the mother arrived at the maternity ward: “At exactly 6 AM, patients were already making their way to the hospital when we noticed a heavily pregnant woman. After a quick assessment, we knew her baby was coming. Immediately, we prepared everything for a smooth delivery.

Active in the health campaign, the Fon of Fontem visited the new born baby at Mary Health of Africa Hospital

Within minutes, the baby was born safely, thanks to the essential equipment and medications provided by the campaign.”
The impact of LECUDO-USA’s campaign extended far beyond childbirth. On the same day: 11 surgeries were performed, including both major and minor procedures. The eye care unit treated 104 patients, offering life-changing interventions. In just two days, a staggering 26 surgical operations were completed, with a total of 594 medical cases treated.

With this free healthcare campaign by LECUDO-USA, the people of Fontem are witnessing firsthand what healthcare with compassion looks like. And for one mother, this initiative didn’t just bring medical relief—it delivered the greatest gift of all.
