Lebialem, Cameroon – In a bid to give back to the community, the Lebang Cultural and Development Organization (LECUDO-USA), in collaboration with its partners, organized a three-day free health campaign aimed at providing quality healthcare services. The annual initiative was held in Fontem and Fonjumetow, delivering much-needed medical assistance to the local population.

This year’s campaign saw more than 1,500 patients in Fontem receive various healthcare services, including cancer screening, eye care, mental health consultations, laboratory tests, surgeries, medical referrals, hypertension and diabetes screenings, echography, and dental care.

During the Health campaign, two babies—a boy and a girl—were delivered at Mary Health of Africa Hospital

Ben Fuaminka, President of LECUDO-USA, expressed satisfaction with the impact of the campaign. He said: “We successfully met our goals and objectives for this year. Conducting the campaign solely in Fontem—unlike previous years—helped us reach over 1,500 medical cases, including patients who travelled from the Meme Division. This highlights how impactful and beneficial this initiative has become for our Fondom.”

The health team also delivered two babies—a boy and a girl—at Mary Health of Africa Hospital. “Having children born during this campaign is another testament to our success,” Ben Fuaminka added.

Appreciation for Partners and Donors

LECUDO-USA extended gratitude to its partners and donors for their unwavering support. “We deeply appreciate the sacrifices and contributions of our donors, which ensured the smooth and successful execution of this health campaign,” Fuaminka said.

We successfully met our goals and objectives for this year. Conducting the campaign solely in Fontem—unlike previous years—helped us reach over 1,500 medical cases, including patients who travelled from other parts of the country, says Ben Fominka, President of LECUDO-USA

The campaign was supported by organizations such as Life Bridge International, Healing Beyond the Horizon, Mary Health of Africa, the Focolare Movement, TEKA Lab, and others. These partners provided medical supplies, equipment, financial aid, and healthcare personnel.

Papa Mathias, a representative from TEKA Lab, emphasized the importance of their involvement. “We have been working alongside LECUDO-USA to screen diseases and help the people of Lebialem manage their health challenges. This initiative is truly motivating, and we are honoured to contribute,” he said.

Commitment to Development

Beyond healthcare, LECUDO-USA remains dedicated to the overall development of Lebang. The organization has implemented several projects, including the installation of solar streetlights, road construction, and educational initiatives.

Fuaminka reiterated their commitment to revitalizing the community. “Our focus is on reconstructing Lebang after years of crisis. We are leading efforts in solar electricity, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Our goal is to rebuild our villages, and we encourage all Fondoms to join us in this mission,” he emphasized.

Transparency and accountability remain at the core of LECUDO-USA’s operations. “For this organization to thrive, we must ensure integrity in our actions. We invite others to join us in making great things happen,” Fuaminka added.

The final day of the campaign was graced by the Fon of Fontem, who commended the team for their dedication. “Health is wealth, and this initiative is a gift of wealth to our people, especially at a time when many health facilities remain closed. The overwhelming turnout underscores the need for such services, and offering them free of charge is commendable,” he stated.

He also extended appreciation to the medical personnel, volunteers, and partners for their contributions. “On behalf of the people of Lebang, I thank everyone who played a role in making this campaign a success,” he said.

A Lifeline for the Community

For many residents, this campaign was a life-changing experience. Prisca Forchap, a beneficiary, shared her gratitude: “This is my third time benefiting from this initiative. Without it, many of us wouldn’t have access to proper healthcare. Despite the challenges of the crisis, initiatives like these bring hope.”

Echemo Vero, another recipient, recounted her experience: “My daughter had been suffering from severe stomach pain for months. Today, she was diagnosed and successfully treated for an umbilical hernia—all free of charge. This is a blessing, and I cannot thank the team enough.”

To ensure continued care, LECUDO-USA has launched a 90-day follow-up program for patients identified during the campaign. “All patients under this program will receive free medication and other necessary treatments to maintain their health. We will also replenish medications to ensure continuous care,” Ben Fuaminka confirmed. Plans are already in motion to expand next year’s campaign, ensuring an even greater impact in the community.
