“We are very pleased to bring our impactful premier summit to Ghana and look forward to saying “Akwaaba!” to all our international delegates in October, showcasing Ghanaian and African innovations to the global investing community, ” says Zekarias Amsalu, Co-Founder & MD at Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS).

Accra: During the 4th Ghana Fintech Awards dinner reception at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Africa Fintech Summit announced that Accra, Ghana, will be the host City of the 14th Africa Fintech Summit that will gather 1,500 in-person and 3,000+ virtual attendees from over 65 countries on October 8-10, 2025. The summit will bring regulators, policymakers, financial industry executives, fintech founders, leading innovators, investors, conference tourism delegates and afropreneurs worldwide. It will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre(AICC) in the heart of Accra.

With participants representing over $6bn in strategic and venture capital funding, the AFTS is Africa’s premier global initiative dedicated to financial technology. The bi-annual summit occurs each April in Washington, D.C., on the sideline of the WB/IMF Spring meeting, and each November in a different African city (most recently in Nairobi, Kenya(2024), Lusaka (2023), Cape Town (2022), Cairo (2021), Virtual (2020), Addis (2019) and Lagos (2018) and every April in Washington DC.

“We are very pleased to bring our impactful premier summit to Ghana and look forward to saying “Akwaaba!” to all our international delegates in October.  I was very pleased with the warm welcome I received on my visit to Ghana. It was a productive tour that included high-level discussions with government and private sector partners. I look forward to extending the same hospitality to our global delegates and, in line with our theme for the year, From Africa to the World, showcasing Ghanaian and African innovations to the global investing community, ” said Zekarias Amsalu, Co-Founder & MD at Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS).

Ghana boasts a thriving tech ecosystem that will serve as a fitting backdrop for the conversations at #AFTSACCRA25. In 2024, startups in the country attracted $102 million in equity funding, reflecting a 36% year-over-year increase, according to Partech. This made Ghana most-funded African startup ecosystem last year and one of only three countries to have raised more than $50 million in equity funding. It also recorded the sixth highest number of equity funding deals in Africa (17).

This keen investor interest in Ghana has been around for a while. For context, Ghana has raised more than $50 million every year since 2019 and even secured over $100 million in 4 of the last 6 years. Leading this thriving tech ecosystem is a fintech industry that is driving economic growth and financial inclusion on an impressive scale. Data from the Bank of Ghana showed that fintech transactions grew by 33.4% in Q1 2024, reaching GH¢576.03 billion while registered mobile money accounts reached 73 million last year.

Panelists at #AFTSNairobi2024

In preparation for #AFTSACCRA25, the AFTS team led by co-founder Zekarias Amsalu has had several productive meetings with the Ghanaian Embassy in Washington, D.C., the Foreign Affairs Minstry of Ghana, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and several other strategic stakeholders to align on objectives and strategies for ensuring that this partnership benefits Ghana’s digital economy and investment landscape.

#AFTSACCRA25 will include a VIP dinner for speakers and invited guests on the first night. On the second day, there will be keynote speeches from Ghanaian government officials, panel sessions featuring industry thought leaders, workshops, fireside chats, and masterclasses. Alpha Expo Pitch Competition for African early-stage startups and ecosystem tours for the global investing community will bring the summit to an end on the third day. Proceedings on each day of the event will conclude with a happy hour and cultural immersion engagements for delegates.

AFTS had a theme of the “Africanization of Global Tech” in 2023 showcasing how African Fintech startups are expanding globally and resolving global pain points in other markets, followed by a theme of “Fintech in Every Industry” in 2024. Recognizing that the globe is now closely intertwined and African fintech startups are expanding beyond Africa and taking their ‘battle-tested’ innovation to other continents, the theme for 2025 is “From Africa to The World.”

In line with this theme, AFTSACCRA25 and other AFTS events in 2025 will highlight insights and success stories of African fintechs within and outside of the continent and what this means for global stakeholders, investors and Africa’s fintech ecosystem. Specific topics that will be examined include Africa’s Fintechs Going Global, LATAM-Africa-Asia Fintech Connections, US-Africa Tech Investment and Relationship, Stablecoins and Africa’s Remittance Space, and more.

“We are very pleased to welcome AFTS as a strategic partner. We look forward to closely working together to amplify Ghana’s fintech ecosystem and create enduring and growth-enabling partnerships between our members and the incoming global counterparties. As an industry thought leader, on behalf of our members in the fintech and payment space, GFPA will co-host a “State of Ghana’s Fintech Ecosystem” workshop with AFTS during the summit and I look forward to welcoming international delegates and treating them to Ghana’s widely acclaimed hospitality,” said Martin Awagah, CEO of Ghana Fintech & Payment Association (GFPA).

As part of promoting AFTSACCRA25, spotlighting Ghana’s tech ecosystem and driving investment to it, AFTS will be running multiple events across the globe in the months leading up to the summit, including in Lagos in March, Washington DC on 24 April 2025 during the WB Spring meeting, in London this summer and in New York in September during the UNGA week in close collaboration with our strategic partners in Ghana.

AFTS Co-founder Zekarias Amsalu and Martin Awagah, CEO of Ghana Fintech and Payments Association
