Ghana’s President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged to implement a 24-hour economy policy, which aims to transform the country’s economic landscape, generate job opportunities, and promote a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit.
In his New Year’s address, Mahama stated that this 24-hour economy would entail restructuring key sectors to function continuously, enhancing productivity, drawing in foreign investment, and creating numerous job opportunities.
“In the coming months, we will embark on a purposeful, enthusiastic and enterprising journey to reset the Ghanaian economy for growth and jobs. My Administration is committed to implementing our 24 hour economy policy,” said President Mahama.
The President-elect said his administration is dedicated to fostering an export-driven economy, a strategic move designed to lessen Ghana's dependence on imports while harnessing the country's strengths in vital sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and technology. He noted that this approach would establish a solid groundwork for sustainable development and boost the nation's competitiveness internationally.
Mahama also promised business owners and entrepreneurs a supportive environment for their ventures during his tenure.
“My administration will remove barriers, simplifying processes and providing the necessary resources to empower you to build and expand your businesses,” he said.
On governance, Mahama committed to forming a streamlined and effective government that focuses on the needs of everyday Ghanaians. He promised to confront corruption with “unwavering determination,” cut down on unnecessary government spending, and foster a transparent administration that embodies the collective desires of the populace.
Acknowledging the youth as the country’s “most valuable assets,” Mahama urged them to have faith in themselves and take an active role in shaping Ghana’s future. He reassured the younger generation of increased opportunities, including education, training, and job programs that would enable them to achieve their aspirations without having to look for chances abroad.
“Your energy, creativity and passion are vital to our future success,” he told the youths.
He further called for national unity, encouraging citizens to adopt a mindset of positivity and hope. He pointed out that working together is crucial for creating a Ghana filled with opportunities, fairness, and collective success.
“Together, let us embrace positivity and hope. Let us stand united at the moment that we can reset our economy, restore dignity and integrity and renew our collective commitment,” he added.
