BUEA, Cameroon – In a gesture of spiritual encouragement and pastoral care, the Bishop of Mamfe, His Lordship Aloysius Fondong, paid a significant visit to Mary Health of Africa Hospital in Fontem.
The visit marked an opportunity to reinforce the bond between the Church and the healthcare community, while inspiring patients, staff, and the wider community with messages of hope and faith.
The Mary Health of Africa Hospital, a renowned medical institution, has been at the forefront of providing quality healthcare services to the people of the Lebialem Division and beyond. Bishop Aloysius Fondong’s pastoral visit, described by many as both uplifting and timely, underscores the Church’s commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives in the region.
During the visit, Bishop Fondong toured various hospital sections, engaging directly with patients and staff. He offered prayers for healing and strength to the patients and commended the medical personnel for their tireless dedication and sacrifice.
The pastoral visit also included a Eucharistic celebration in the hospital chapel, which brought together staff and patients. Drawing inspiration from the Gospel of Matthew, Bishop Aloysius emphasized themes of peace, healing, and redemption. "Jesus welcomed all towns and all places, healing people of all kinds of diseases," he preached, linking this divine mission to the hospital's work.
The bishop’s visit left a profound impression on the hospital community, with many expressing gratitude for his spiritual leadership and encouragement.
Among the attendees was Mr. Nkengfua William, a patient, who expressed deep gratitude for the bishop’s visit. He shared his experience with a tone of hope.
Dr Michel, a medical practitioner at Mary Health of Africa Hospital, also shared his joy, noting that the Bishop’s presence was the first in seven years. “It’s a great joy because the place has been without a spiritual father for a long time. Now, the father has come,” he said.
Dr Michel highlighted both the progress and challenges faced by the hospital. While efforts to curb diseases such as malaria through community sensitization and government support with mosquito nets are ongoing, the facility struggles with limited personnel. “We used to have over 100 workers, but now we operate with less than 20. Maintaining this large compound is strenuous, but we are doing our best,” he explained.
The CEO of LECUDO USA, Ben Forminka, commended the hospital staff for their dedication to promoting health and well-being, despite the resource constraints. “Their tireless efforts are a vital part of the community’s progress,” he noted.
The Bishop’s visit also included moments of reflection on unity and development within Lebang Fondom. In a powerful message, he condemned divisive forces and praised those working toward harmony and progress.
The day’s events culminated in a renewed sense of hope and commitment among the hospital’s staff and community members. Bishop Aloysius’ presence reinforced the Church’s role as a beacon of faith and support, offering both spiritual and practical encouragement to those in need.
As hymns filled the hospital chapel and prayers were lifted, the atmosphere at Mary Health of Africa Hospital was one of reverence, devotion, and unity, embodying the true spirit of the pastoral visit.
