In a significant boost for the health and education of girls, Hlalanathi High School, Newcastle, Majuba District in Kwa Zulu Natal Province, received a generous donation of sanitary pads from Njiva Charities, a humanitarian organization based in the USA. The donation, made on Friday, aims to support the personal hygiene of female students, helping to keep them in school.
Tsungai Njiva, the founder and director of Njiva Charities, emphasized the critical importance of hygiene for girls’ health and educational success. Speaking from Omaha, Nebraska, she stated, “Sanitary pads provide essential personal hygiene for girls and women. Without them, girls face health issues that disrupt their daily activities, making it difficult for them to focus on their studies.”
Njiva highlighted the connection between the use of sanitary pads and the prevention of serious health concerns, such as cervical cancer. “The more women and girls use sanitary pads, the better they can protect themselves from diseases like cervical cancer. If girls suffer from such health problems, they are less likely to stay in school, affecting their academic performance.”
The donation is part of Njiva Charities’ broader mission to promote education and address health challenges faced by girls in Africa. Njiva also underscored the importance of cleanliness in preventing diseases and enhancing the dignity of girls and women. “By providing sanitary pads, we are not just supporting their health; we are empowering them to succeed in their education.”
In addition to sanitary pad distribution, Njiva Charities focuses on water and sanitation initiatives, furthering its commitment to improving health and education outcomes for girls. “Our goal is to eliminate health challenges and their root causes within communities,” Njiva explained. “We strive to keep girls in school, removing social and economic barriers that hinder their progress.”
As October is recognized as Cancer Month, Njiva Charities joins humanitarian organizations in the fight against cancer, particularly breast and cervical cancer. Through its initiatives, the organization aims to bring awareness and support to issues affecting communities.
