The Uganda Olympic Committee has urged Kenyan authorities to investigate the death of Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegi.
In a statement, the committee's president, Dr. Donald Rukare, condemned the heinous act, calling for the perpetrator to be brought to book.
"We urge the relevant enforcement agencies to take swift and decisive action to bring perpetrator to justice for this cowardly and deplorable actions," said Dr. Rukare.
The deceased was set ablaze by her Kenyan boyfriend in Eldoret after an altercation erupted between them over a house she owned.
Kenya's National Olympic Committee (NOCK) described Cheptegei's demise as a tragic loss to Uganda and Kenya.
"Cheptegei's talent and perseverance as Uganda's Women's Marathon record holder and a Paris 2024 Olympian will always be remembered and celebrated, said NOCK.
"Her untimely and tragic passing is a profound loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time as we honor her legacy and advocate for an end to gender-based violence."
