Corneille Nangaa, former president of the Election Commission of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who organized presidential and legislative elections in 2018, has just been sentenced to death by military justice. He is currently coordinator of the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC), a political-military platform to which the M23 belongs.
On July 24, 2024, the Kinshasa/Gombe Military Court opened the public trial against Corneille Nangaa, leader of the Alliance Fleuve Congo political-military movement. 25 other defendants are also on trial for rebellion against the Republic. Five defendants have appeared, while the others are “on the run”.
At the hearing on Monday July 29, 2024, Vianney Kazarama, formerly the voice of the rebel movement in 2012, was added to the list of defendants.
The sentence was handed down a few days ago by the Kinshasa – Gombe Court of Appeal, following an arduous trial. This news has been the subject of much ink and reaction.
Corneille Nangaa has opened his voice
The former president of the Electoral Commission was quick to react. In his statement the day before yesterday, Nangaa spoke of “the adventure of a sick justice system at the service of Mr. Tshisekedi in a worm-eaten democracy. This nauseating judicial epic reinforces the fight for democratic normalcy in the DRC. All acts of justice under Tshisekedi (fraudster in the December 2023 elections) are null and void. Since the start of this sham trial, we’ve been overwhelmed by support and support”.
