Two Kenyan businessmen have been charged in the court of law for attempting to bribe a police officer.
The suspects, Boniface Aggrey Ouma and Isaac Wanaloba Keyari are accused of offering a bribe to officer Margaret Awino Ongale to influence the outcome of an investigation she was carrying in their favour.
Mr. Ouma reportedly offered two sets of bribes to the officer based at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
On the other hand, Keyari was also charged with an additional count of conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption.
The court was told that the accused committed the offence on September 2, 2021, at a restaurant in Mombasa County.
They were released on bond pending the mentioning of the case.
Philip Muigai Nduati, a third suspect, did not take the plea with his lawyer stating he had been admitted to the hospital.
The attorney requested that the court postpone taking pleas for all three accused since one was absent. However, the court dismissed the lawyer’s request.
The matter will be mentioned on November 23, 2023, when the third suspect is expected to take the plea.
