Kenya’s Governor Amos Nyaribo on Tuesday survived an impeachment motion sponsored by one of the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
This comes after MCAs seeking his removal fell short of the two-thirds threshold.
Out of the 34 Members of the County Assembly, eight rejected his removal while sixteen approved.
The motion pushing for the removal of the Nyamira County Governor was sponsored by MCA Josiah Mang’era.
Governor Nyaribo faces 12 allegations, including unlawful employee recruitment, failure to submit statutory dues, favouritism, and nepotism.
He is accused of violating the law by handpicking the Human Resource Management and Human Resource Officer positions.
The Nyamira County chief is also accused of illegally appointing two staff employees despite a court injunction prohibiting him from doing so.
He is also accused of skirting the county assembly by suspending the CEO of the county Public Service Board during an active recruiting exercise.
Additionally, Nyaribo is accused of irregular reallocation of emergency money, a faulty revenue automation system, and the inability to construct the county headquarters office structure.
