The US Embassy in Nairobi on Friday warned its citizens over the suspected terror attack in the East African nation.
In a statement, the embassy urged its citizens to remain vigilant while visiting overcrowded places frequented by foreigners and tourists.
The embassy said areas like hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, schools, police stations, and places of worship are likely to be attacked by terror groups.
“Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, schools, police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists,” reads the statement in part.
As a precaution, American citizens have been encouraged to stay alert in locations frequented by tourists and foreigners, review their security plans and be aware of their surroundings.
They have also been told to monitor local media for updates, avoid crowds and keep a low profile.
They have further been urged to stay away from protest areas and demonstrations.
“Locations frequented by US citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct potentially imminent attacks," added the embassy.
