Cameroon: Prof Mbarika Bags African Achievers Award for Championing Leadership

BUEA, July 21, 2023 – Professor Victor Mbarika, the founder of the Information Communication Technologies, ICT University Cameroon has been distinguished with the African Achievers Award, joining former African presidents to have been given the accolade

The award was conferred on Prof Mbarika during a ceremony at the Palace of Westminster, United Kingdom's Houses of Parliament on July 14th and comes to honour a man who has given his all to the advancement of leadership in his home country Cameroon and beyond.

Professor Victor Mbarika joins the likes of Nelson Mandela, Julius Nyerere, Thomas Sankara, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta, Patrice Lumumba, Leopold Sedar, Halle Selassie, Wangari Maathai, and Jerry Rawlings, as personalities who have received the distinction.

Professor Victor Mbarika was the sole recipient of the African Leadership Awards due to his leadership in academic and other sectors of development on the continent. He said: “I give thanks to God and dedicate this award to my beloved country, Cameroon where I started learning leadership as a youngster, and also to my father and hero, Mr. George Mbarika. As a means to portray my patriotism and honour my country, I decided to present myself in a tie with Cameroon’s flag at the event’.’

“Equally, I dedicate this award to all young upcoming Africans that I have had the privilege to mentor and I will continue doing so. Lastly, I dedicate it to The ICT University family, in all nations around the world where we are based. This award is to you all,” Professor Victor Mbarika added.

The African Achievers Awards is an annual awards ceremony that celebrates African excellence by recognising and honouring notable individuals and organisations in Africa across multiple industries that contribute immensely to the growth and development of the continent.
