Yacine Hamza Wins First Lap of 2023 Cameroon International Cycling Race

BUEA, June 5, 2023. Algerian Yacine Hamza has emerged winner of the first lap of the 19th edition of the Cameroon International Cycling race that took place on June 3, 2023, in Garoua, North region of the country. This is the first time that the North Region has served as a kick-off for the International Cycling Tour.

The 26-year-old cyclist grabbed the throne of the first stage of the competition after covering the 103 kilometres from Figuil to Garoua using 2h36mins57secs. Ed-doghmy Archaf of Morocco came second while Sabbahi Hocane came third. The first Cameroonian was Tientcheu Boris, who could only finish fourth.

The Algerian cyclist was equally the first and fourth of the Algeria tour where he covered 82.5 kilometres run from Constantine to skikda where he won ahead of Malaysian Mohd Harrif and French Paul Hennequin.

The International Cycling Race is a competition organized under the patronage of the Head of State President Paul Biya every year since 2003. As innovations for this year’s race, the best Cameroonian cyclist at the end of the competition will back home with enormous financial packages at every stage. This financial package will be rewarded by the General Manager of Camtel, Judith Yah Sunday epouse Achidi.

The 19th edition of the Cameroon International Cycling race which kicked off on June 3, 2023, in Garoua will finish on June 11, with the cyclists covering a distance of 903 kilometres, riding through 8 laps. The competition has seven nations participating including Rwanda, Benin, Morocco, Algeria, France, the Netherlands and host country Cameroon.
