Tanzania’s national carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) has taken delivery of a Boeing 737-800 SF, the airline’s first-ever cargo-dedicated aircraft.
Received by President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Saturday, June 3 2023 at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), the cargo plane can carry up to 54 tonnes of freight and it has a range of 11,070 km, fuel-efficient (90770 liters) and a speed of 850km/h.
Speaking after receiving the cargo freighter, President Samia thanked Tanzanians for their support and prayers to their country, saying that her leadership has managed to implement different mega projects.
The Head of State has further said that the six-phase government will continue looking for more funds so as to keep on implementing more projects.
Speaking at the sideline of the ceremony, ATCL Managing Director, Engineer Ladislaus Matindi said: “Our newly acquired craft, Boeing 767-300F, is expected to significantly reduce costs for exporting cargo, mainly agricultural, fisheries and livestock products.”
Eng. Matindi went on to say that evaluation of the ATCL’s performance in the air cargo transport market has shown great hope as well as the demand for more cargo planes.
“Currently, ATCL transports seafood from Mozambique to China at an average of eight tonnes per trip,” Eng Matindi concludes.
