Tanzania: Historic First As Young Africans Qualifies For CAF Confederations Cup Finals

May 17, 2023

By Prosper Makene

Congolese striker Fiston Kalala Mayele and Zambia’s Kennedy Musonda scored goals as Tanzania’s Young Africans Sports Club defeated the South Africans Marumo Gallants 1-2 in the second leg of their CAF Confederations encounter at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday.

The Congolese international striker’s added time of the first-half strike ensured Young Africans Coach Nabi headed 3-0 on aggregate in 45 minutes of the play. Tanzania’s football giants won 2-0 at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium last week.

In 62 minutes of the play which was dominated by Marumo Gallants with 67 per cent against 33 per cent of the ball possession, it was Young Africans ‘the Jangwani Boys’ who scored the second goal through Zambian striker Musonda.

But in the last minutes of the game, Marumo Gallants' dangerous striker Ranga Chivaviro scored for the host to make the game end 1-2.

Young Africans put on a technique performance to limit Marumo to just three-shot on target, and the visitor’s side makes six shots on target.

More importantly, the victory also sees Young Africa advance into their first CUF CC final on a 4-1 aggregate.

They await the winner of the second semi-final tie between USM Alger of Algeria and Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast.
