Kenyan detectives exhumed 11 additional dead on Wednesday as they continue their search for religious cult adherents.

The latest body exhumation data revealed by regional police chief Rhoda Onyancha raise the death toll to 145.

According to Onyancha, 579 persons associated with the cult leader have gone missing, while 14 have been reunited with their families.

Leader of the Good News International Church Paul Mackenzie is accused of ordering followers to starve themselves and their children in order to enter heaven.

Mackenzie, his wife Rhoda Maweu and 16 others will now remain in police custody for the next 30 days pending investigations following the latest ruling by Shanzu Principal Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda.

Mr. Shikanda said that if the suspects are released on bond at this time, their safety and security may be in jeopardy.

The exhumation exercise will continue on Thursday.
