Kenya’s Opposition Leader Raila Odinga Set For Grand Rally In Kibera On Friday

April 27, 2023

In a statement, the National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi said the rally will take place at Kamukunji Grounds Nairobi’s Kibera estate on Friday, April 28. Wandayi further revealed that Odinga will be received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and then led to the rally grounds, where he will be expected to address his supporters. "The Kibra People's Baraza will also set the stage for the peaceful mass action that is set to resume in Nairobi on  May 2, 2023, as earlier announced," said Wandayi. He implored Odinga supporters to turn out in large numbers to receive their leader, whom they always refer to as "baba", loosely translated as father and maintain peace and order. The announcement comes a day after the outfit suspended its participation in the bipartisan talks with the government. While suspending the talks, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna said that the action followed the government's inclusion of MP Adan Keynan and Pokot South MP David Pkosing by the opposition. Keynan belongs to the opposition, while Pkosing should be on the government side. “The Azimio team has suspended its participation in the bipartisan talks until such time as Hon. Keynan who remains a member of Azimio shall not be included as part of the Kenya Kwanza delegation,” reiterated Senator Sifuna. The odinga-led group will also resume the countrywide protests over electoral injustice, high taxes and high cost of living.
