Africans Rising Calls For Immediate Ceasefire In Sudan

April 18, 2023

By Samuel Ouma Africans Rising has condemned the violent conflict that erupted in Sudan between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. In a statement, the Pan African movement said the people's revolution, which the military has hijacked, hangs in the balance as the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces fight for power. It has rallied all members of the African community to stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan to ensure civilian rule resumes in the country. “We call for an immediate ceasefire for the sake of these innocent people, and the resumption of efforts for the return to Civilian rule in Sudan,” read the statement in part. The movement also condoled with those who have lost their loved ones as a result of the war. “We send our condolences to the families and communities who have already lost loved ones to this conflict, and our solidarity to the people in Sudan who now live in fear for their lives,” the statement stated further. Since the conflict erupted on April 15, at least 180 people have been killed, including four humanitarian aid workers and over 1800 civilians and fighters injured. Reports indicate that many aid agency offices were looted, and Al-Shab Teaching Hospital in Khartoum, along with two other hospitals severely destroyed. Shops, markets and banks have been closed, and food prices have tripled as supplies have become scarce.
