Kenya Airways Launches Trafficking In Persons Policy And Public Awareness Campaign

The fully endorsed Trafficking in Persons Policy, which came into effect in January 2023, outlines the airline’s stand and actions against Human Trafficking. The Public Awareness and Outreach campaign is designed to educate Kenya Airways staff and the public about the misconceptions, the realities of human trafficking and how to identify and report cases of Human Trafficking. “We have invested in capacity building programs to give our employees the tools to identify and report suspected cases of human trafficking because we recognize that our employees at the airport and on flights are uniquely positioned to look out for this type of crime,” said Hellen Mwariri, CFO Kenya Airways The event was presided over by the country’s Cabinet Secretary of Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen and his Labour counterpart Florence Bore who lauded the move by the airline to combat human trafficking, terming it "a bold step." .“I wish to applaud Kenya Airways for taking a bold step in declaring Zero Tolerance to trafficking in persons in its operations,” said CS Florence Bore. CS Transport Kipchumba Murkomen said, “My Ministry will work with all stakeholders to develop, adopt and implement updated comprehensive National Action Plan to prevent trafficking, protect and provide support to victims & prosecute traffickers.”
