Rwanda To Continue Fighting In Mozambique

By Jorge Joaquim

In a bilateral meeting in Addis Ababa at the weekend, Rwandan President Paul Kagame told President Nyusi that Rwanda remains steadfast in supporting Mozambique in fighting the insurgency in Cabo Delgado.

Speaking to journalists on his arrival back in Maputo, Nyusi said Kagame made it clear that while the Mozambican defence and security forces are improving their capacity to combat terrorism, the RDF will remain in Cabo Delgado.

The military route to re-establish security in Cabo Delgado is well under way, said the Portuguese foreign minister, João Gomes Cravinho, adding that to consolidate pacification of the province it is also necessary to invest in development and humanitarian support.

The expectation is also that international companies will soon be able to return to Cabo Delgado to bring development that is lacking and is difficult in a framework of insecurity, he added.
