According to the outfit's leader Raila Odinga, the prayers will be held outside the IEBC offices in Nairobi to persuade the commission to accept responsibility for alleged faults in the recent general election. “We must defend electoral justice in our country. We will continue to urge Kenyans to wake up and defend their rights. This week we will be in Kisii on Friday, and on Saturday we will be in Kisumu. Then we will be doing a prayer for the IEBC to defend the rights of our people,” said Odinga. The AU special envoy insisted that he had won the election and that they would not relinquish their electoral triumph. "Somebody got 5.9 million votes and the other got 8.1 million votes. Those are the facts, and they cannot be swept under the carpet," said the ODM party leader. Raila announced the national prayers a day after President William Ruto hosted interdenominational rain prayers. The prayers were held at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi and attended by First Lady Rachel Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, among other top government officials.
