AU Appoints Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta To Lead Election Observation Team In Nigeria

By Samuel Ouma [caption id="attachment_104454" align="alignnone" width="1280"] Uhuru Kenyatta[/caption] The African Union (AU) has appointed former President of the Republic of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta to lead the newly launched African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to the General Elections in the Federal Republic of Nigeria slated for 25th February 2023. The election observation mission comprises ninety members drawn from various AU Member states and includes representatives of election management bodies and civil society organisations, independent experts, women and youth, and individuals from AU organs, notably the Pan African Parliament and Permanent Representatives Committee. The AUEOM led by Kenyatta will be tasked, among other objectives, to provide an accurate and impartial assessment of the electoral process in Nigeria. The mission draws its mandate from various AU instruments and will be supported by experts from the African Union Commission (AUC).
