Ghana:Branch-Level Is The Most Important Structure In Any Political Party-Joseph Ade Coker

October 13, 2022

By Maxwell Nkansah The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Coker, has stated that the branch level of any political party is the most important part of the structure of the party. He said this in an exclusive interview on the Breakfast Live morning show with host Korku Lumor on TV Africa. He added that "the branch level is in charge of mobilizing people from the grassroots from beneath, and they are the people when it comes to Election Day activities. They have to get people to go out, prompt people to come and vote, and also ensure that the ballot box is policed". He continued by saying, "Getting a solid foundation for a party depends on the branch, and they, as a party, have been able to achieve that by creating over 7,000 branches in Greater Accra alone." He also talked about the schedule for the upcoming constituency elections for the NDC. He said that "Now we are doing the constituency elections and that one is in progress. Then on the 22nd of this month, those elections would take place, and after that has taken place, we do the regional elections, which would be in November, and then in December, we do the national elections. “In addition, flag bearer elections would be held in 2023. He also stated that the number of people who wanted to join the party was encouraging and that this demonstrated the good image of the party when asked about his view on the party's current state. He mentioned that the year 2024 won't be an easy task for them and therefore the responsibility lies with them to do the needful by making good policies that would make Ghanaians throw in their support and trust in them. He claims that despite not being appointed as a minister or a chief executive in former President Mahama's government, he still happens to be a number one supporter of the former President and that he believes in him and also believes in God's timing. He continued by revealing his plans to re-contest for the Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship position for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He outlined his reasons for re-contesting by saying that “the veterans have got experience, and experience is not purchased, experience is earned, and we are at a stage where you need the experience hands-on board because we have got only two years for the elections."
