Germany Commits € 10million To Support Tanzania In Three Projects

Tutuba exchanging documents after the signing ceremony held in Dar es Salaam.[/caption] The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and Tanzania has signed the Agreement on Technical Cooperation, under which the Germany will provide to Tanzania a grant amounting to Euro 10 million, equivalent to TZS 23.7 billion to implement three projects. In his speech shortly after the signing ceremony that attended by Ms. Regine Hess, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Republic of Tanzania, Tanzania’s Ministry of Finance and Planning Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel M. Tutuba said: “The a grant amounting to Euro 10 million, equivalent to TZS 23.7 billion will implement three projects including Mitigation of Human-Wildlife Conflicts Project, Euro 6 million, Access to Justice for Women and Children in Tanzania Project, Euro 3 million and Studies and Expert Funds, Euro 1 million,” the Permanent Secretary said. He added: “The objective of the Mitigation of Human-Wildlife Conflicts Project is to ensure that, the Central Government, Autonomous protected areas authorities, selected local governments and civil society organizations have efficiently implemented National Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) Management Strategy. The project will help to strengthen Tanzania’s capacity to better manage conflicts between wildlife and local populations surrounding game areas. The intervention will reduce, if not to eliminate deaths which are caused by wild animals to the surrounding communities in game reserves while avoiding destruction of biodiversity to Game Reserves by the surrounding population.” On access to Justice for Women and Children in Tanzania Project, where Euro 3 million is committed, Mr Tutuba said: “This project is intended to contribute improving access to justice for women and children, achieving legal empowerment and to protect them from gender-specific discrimination and violence, thereby promoting gender equality in Tanzania.” He further said that the project will enable vulnerable groups in particular women and girls to have improved access to responsive and accountable justice and human rights protection mechanisms and be able to demand their rights and ultimately reduce Gender Based Violence. On Studies and Expert Funds, where Euro 1 million is committed, he elaborated: “The Study and Expert Funds under this Technical Cooperation Agreement will be used to conduct feasibility Studies of the projects under Tanzania – Germany development cooperation.” The PS underscored that the assistance is part of total commitments of Euro 71 million equivalent to TZS 188.65 billion which was committed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany during the bilateral Negotiations between our two countries, held in Dar es Salaam on 25th November 2021 to support various development projects in our country. “This is a continuation of support which is growing as reflected by the increase in the number of bilateral development projects, supported by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany,” he said. He went on to say that Tanzania has benefited from German support, mostly in areas of Water Sector, Health Sector, Energy Sector, Sustainable use of Natural resources and Environmental protection, Good Financial Governance and Study and Expert Fund. “This support is in line with our National plans including 2025 Tanzania Development Vision and our Third Five Year Development Plan,” he said, insisting, “Your Excellency Ambassador, I understand that the next Negotiations on Development Cooperation between our two countries will be conducted in November 2022 in Berlin, Germany. We are very grateful and hoping that the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany will provide more support to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for various development projects.”

Further, be assured that the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania will take requisite steps to ensure successful implementation of these projects to achieve the intended objectives.”
