Tanzania’s Samia Appoints Mkunda New Chief of Defence Forces

By Prosper Makene [caption id="attachment_97976" align="alignnone" width="1280"] Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan speaking with the retired CDF Mabeyo at State House Dar es Salaam on Wednesday[/caption] Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan has on Wednesday appointed General Jacob John Mkunda the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), replacing General Venance Mabeyo who has retired. Besides the appointment, Lt General Mkunda was promoted to General, according to a statement issued by the presidential communication directorate. Prior to the new appointment Mkunda was the Chief of Operations and Training. At the same time, President Samia promoted Major General Salum Haji Othman to Lieutenant General and appointed him as new Chief of Staff of the Tanzania People's Defence Forces (TPDF). Before the appointment, the new TPDF new Chief of Staff was Commissioner for Research and Military Development at the ministry of the defence and national services. At the same time, President Samia has also appointed Lieutenant General Mathew Edward Mkingule as ambassador. Before the appointment, Mkingule was TPDF chief of staff. In another development, the outgoing Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), General Venance Mabeyo has bid farewell to President Samia after completing his term of service in the Army. Mabeyo bid farewell to Samia today Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at the State House Dar es Salaam.
