Kenya : Two Suspects In Possession Of Bhang Arrested In Migori

May 14, 2022

By Samuel Ouma Police officers in Awendo, Migori County, Southwestern Kenya, on Friday, May 13, 2022, arrested two suspects and recovered sacks of bhang (cannabis) stuffed in the back seat of a Toyota Premio saloon car. The arrest was effected following a tip-off from members of the public. “In the morning incident today, the car driver who is now in police custody, 38-year-old Benard Momanyi defied orders to stop when he was flagged down at a police roadblock,” said the police. Police said in his desperate efforts to escape, he dangerously ran over police spikes deflating both the front and rear wheels of his car and continued to speed on flat tires. However, police officers on duty at the police check gave a chase and caught up with the suspects. The car had a 27-year-old passenger identified as Thomas Macheine Kuria. He was arrested alongside the driver, and the haul of bhang of undeclared value was recovered. The two will be arraigned in court to answer charges that will include trafficking of bhang. According to the police, drug and substance abuse has ruined the lives of many young people, some of whom have turned to crime and irresponsible behaviour to fund their illegal indulgence. The local community have been urged to work hand in hand with the police to eradicate the menace.
