According to Merck Foundation the award was initiated for Journalists in African Countries and other parts of the world to raise awareness on how to adapt best protection measures such as wearing your masks to show you care and love your family & community; to encourage your community to choose to vaccinate when it is available and to sensitize them to support healthcare workers who are at the forefront of COVID 19 pandemic. The Freetown based PAV correspondent was quick to share the good news of his award on his official journalist page thanking God for his immense endowment of the gift of talent and knowledge upon him whilst also thanking Merck Foundation for the meritorious award given to him. ‘’I'm super grateful. It could be that in 2020, Koroma was also winner for the 2020 Merck Foundation Stay at "Home Media Award" bagging first position for the Print Category in West Africa with an award value of $500.
