Juba - South Sudan transitional government has called off the official celebrations for the country's 10th independence anniversary tomorrow, citizens urge to observe from home.

The planned 10th anniversary that was slated for Friday, July 9, will be a low-key event due to the COVID-19.
This is the 6th consecutive year in which the state has failed to give prominence to the day.

South Sudan Became the Africa's 54th and World's 93rd newest nation on July 9th, 2011 after Southerners voted 98% for separation in the referendum, ended a decades of civil war.

But the independence's hopes were ruined by the conflict that broke out in late 2013.
However, the council of ministers' meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir resolved that the celebration of

Independence Day be done with limited gatherings, possibly from home.
Addressing journalists after the meeting in Juba, the Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology, Baba Medan said President Kiir will address the nation in a televised address in commemoration of the day. Medan encouraged all the South Sudanese to follow the directives of the president.

According to Deputy Minister Medan, the citizens will be expected to be glued to their Televisons and radio boxes to listen to the presidential speech from State House, Juba, as the country reflects on the 10 years of self-rule.

The deputy minister also said the council had resolved to push forward the swearing-in of the peace legislators.
He did not reveal the date when the presidency intends to swear in the nominees of the Revitalised Transitional National Legislative Assembly.

Last week, President Kiir's office revealed that the plan for swearing-in had entered the top stage and that all was set for the D-day.

South Sudan is just emerging from the country's five year of conflict, but the peace process remains fragile.
