The Cabinet meeting on Monday revised measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 and resolved that movements between Kigali city and provinces and districts were allowed.
The cabinet meeting convenes at least every two weeks to revise COVID-19 measures.
Among measures taken on Monday, the cabinet resolved that inter districts movements will be allowed except in three districts namely Bugesera district in Eastern Province, Nyanza, and Gisagara districts in the Southern province. The Country has 30 districts making up four provinces and the City of Kigali.
“Movements between Kigali and other provinces and between districts of the country shall resume except for Bugesera, Nyanza, and Gisagara districts. Specific guidelines on the three districts will be provided by the Ministry of Local Government,” reads the cabinet Communique in part.
Over the past months, inter-districts movements were banned following the spike of COVID-19 positive cases.
The only movement of goods was allowed. Public and private servants who wished to cross one district to another had to seek travel clearance from police before they undertook any journey.
The curfew was also extended to 9 p.m and go through 4 a.m. previously it started from 8 p.m. Businesses shall close at 8 p.m from 6 p.m previously.
Bars will remain closed, meetings should not exceed 30 percent of the facility’s capacities, weddings should not exceed 20 people and there should be no reception after the ceremonies among other measures.
Public offices and private businesses will continue with essential staff at no more than 30 percent capacity while other employees continue working from home on a rotational basis, according to the statement.
Rwanda has so far recorded 20,302 Covid-19 cases including18,635 who have recovered. The country also recorded 282 deaths as a result of the global pandemic.
Over the past two weeks, the government has embarked on the vaccination exercise which saw over 314,000 people vaccinated against COVID-19.
It is expected that at least 30 percent of the population will have received their jabs by the end of 2021 and 60 percent by the end of next year.
