A 70-year-old man in Kenya is being held in police custody over the alleged murder of his parents.

The Wednesday morning incident took place at Kiima Kiu village in Makueni County, the country's eastern part.

The suspect, identified as John Nzingu Ndivo, is said to have stabbed to death his 100-year-old father and 96-year-old mother following a violent land tussle.

The report indicates that John, the deceased's firstborn, has been engaging his parents on the same land, demanding his portion.

“The body of the mother was found in the kitchen while that of his father was in a maize plantation,” reiterated Makueni County’s police chief Joseph Ole Napaiyan.

Police recovered a blood-stained machete and kitchen knife at the scene.

The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the morgue.

The suspect is set to be arraigned in court and charged with murder.

The incident comes barely a week after a man was reported to have murdered his girlfriend before setting her body ablaze in Kasarani, Nairobi.

The burnt body of 34-year-old Margaret Muchemi was found tied to a bed by neighbours who had responded to a fire at her house.

Margaret maidservants told the police that their boss asked them to stroll in the streets while she held a meeting with her boyfriend on the fateful day, Friday, January 22, 2021.

When they returned, the maidservants found the house on fire, and the suspect had taken off.
