Kenya’s Covid-19 fatalities hit 100

The number of people who have died of Coronavirus in Kenya on Saturday increased to 100, the Ministry of Health announced.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Rashid Aman said 4 people succumbed to the respiratory disease in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths on Friday was 96.

While giving daily updates on Covid-19 in Nairobi, Dr. Aman announced 152 new cases bringing the total number of infection to 3.457.  The latest figures were reported from 3,403 samples tested between Friday and Saturday.

The African nation has now tested 112,171 samples since the first case was reported in the country on March 13, 2020.

The young patient was 2 years-old and the oldest being 65-years-old with 116 being males while 36 females.

The cases were distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi (70), Mombasa (41), Busia (16), Kiambu (9), Kajiado (4), Machakos and Migori (3) each, Kisumu (2), Taita Taveta, Nakuru, Narok and Uasin Gishu (1) case each.

So far 38 out of 47 counties have reported positive cases.

Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa are the epicentres of the novel virus having recorded 44 and 30 per cent of total cases respectively.

At the same time, the CAS confirmed that 57 patients had been discharged from raising the number of recoveries to 1,221.
