Sierra Leone has today recorded its first related COVID-19 death in the country a statement from the Information Directorate , Ministry of Information and Communication has said.
According to the Status Update for COVID-19 from the Information Ministry, the reported death is a 76-year-old man who was admitted at the Connaught Hospital, stating that the old man died before he was proved positive of COVID-19 at the Connaught and not at the 34 Military Hospital Centre.
“The current total of cumulative positive cases of COVID-19 is 61. The EOC process has kicked off to locate all primary and secondary contacts,’’ the update reads.
The Information Directorate noted that there are 55 COVID-19 active cases currently under observation being managed in isolation centres but added that they all are in stable condition.
“The total number of persons currently in quarantine is 608 . The total number of persons that has been discharged from quarantine is 1, 226. Members of the public are encouraged to call 117 if you have fever , tiredness and cough’’
The COVID- 19 update statement further noted that, government has now made it mandatory for everyone to wear a cloth face mask in public spaces adding that enforcement mechanisms are in place , and that everyone is advised to secure a cloth face mask.
“The Public is further encouraged to continue frequent washing of hands with soap or use hand sanitizers; avoid touching one’s eyes , nose , and mouth with unwashed hands ;cough or sneeze into their upper arm or sleeve ; and avoid close contacts from others especially in crowded areas’’ Last week, Six COVID-19 patients were discharged at the 34 Military Hospital, West of Freetown.
