The Gambia Press Union (GPU) is deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news of the death of veteran journalist Sarjo Barrow on Sunday night.

He was laid to rest on Monday, where thousands of Gambians pay tribute to him.

The renowned broadcaster spent almost all his productive career with the Gambia Radio Television Service and then Star FM.

Uncle Sarjo, as he was fondly called, was widely known for his eloquence and depth in news and announcement in Mandinka language.  As a result, he inspired, groomed and guided so many young announcers in the country.

GPU President Sheriff Bojang Jr said: “The demise of Uncle Sarjo is really sad and a great loss to the Gambian media fraternity.

“On behalf of the Gambia Press Union, I send my deepest condolences to his family and the journalism community."

We pray that God bless his soul and give him the highest place in Jannatul Firduas.
