  • Monteiro is an industry veteran who has been with DHL divisions for almost two decades
  • He will focus on further boosting cross-border collaboration and customer service as part of growth strategy for the region
LUANDA, Angola, September 25th, 2018,-/African Media Agency (AMA) /-DHL Global Forwarding, the leading international provider of air, sea and road freight services, has appointed Egidio Monteiro to take on the role of CEO, Southern Africa, with effect from 1 October 2018. He will report to Daniella De Pauw, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, Sub-Saharan Africa.
A DHL veteran who has amassed over 17 years of industry experience, Monteiro was most recently Managing Director of DHL Express in Angola – a role he has held since 2014 – where he drove record growth for the business. Over the years, Monteiro has contributed his expertise in various roles across both DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding divisions, covering a range of disciplines from express delivery to air freight and oil and gas logistics.

“It’s great to have Egidio back with the division, as he has over the years, demonstrated not just acute business proficiency, but also a large propensity toward good leadership,” said Amadou Diallo, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, Middle East and Africa. “His passion and enthusiasm for the growth of his people is in tandem with his desire to grow the business, and I’m confident that he will excel in this role.”

“Southern Africa has huge future economic potential1, which makes it the perfect match for the result-oriented, growth-centric mindset of a business leader like Egidio,” said Daniella De Pauw, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, Sub-Saharan Africa. “His vast insights into the different business and logistical needs of the continent is unparalleled, and this is what has enabled him to successfully build and lead express delivery operations in Angola and throughout the Sub-Saharan African region from the ground up. I’m excited to see how Egidio will bring his breadth of expertise and passion into Southern Africa and push the region’s growth upwards to new heights.”
Having started his career with DHL Express in 2001 as an operations supervisor, Monteiro later progressed to lead sales for oil and energy sector and gateway hub operations. In 2005, he joined DHL Danzas to lead air and ocean freight operations, and in 2006, he joined DHL Global Forwarding in Angola to focus on intra-Africa trade, including oil and gas logistics throughout Western Africa and air freight services covering Central Africa.
Between 2008 and 2011, as Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding in Angola, Monteiro led his team, at that time, to grow freight volumes and revenues faster than anywhere else in Africa, achieving one of the highest growth rates in a single DHL market worldwide.
“With the opportunities presented for greater intra-African trade, this is an exciting time for the continent as we have the propensity to achieve so much more, for our customers as well as for our network in the region,” said Egidio Monteiro, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, Southern Africa.

He continued, “Over the years, DHL has also shown me how a good work ethic and an interest in logistics can not only help our customers, but also open doors to incredible career opportunities. This new role gives me the chance to maintain and build on that culture that our success relies on, and pass on my experience to others and help them grow as logisticians and leaders in tandem with our business.”
