[Standard Digital][/caption]Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Sam Atandi on Monday were involved in heated verbal exchange that nearly degenerated to brawl at Kisumu International Airport. Trouble began when Atandi confronted Echesa over his recent remarks against the opposition Chief Raila Odinga. In response the former boxer shouted at him and moved closure raging with fury ready for a scuffle. It took the intervention of police to diffuse the tension. The two gave different accounts of the altercation when reached by media. The Cabinet Secretary denied fighting with the opposition allied legislator. He accused him of provoking him. On his part, Atandi confirmed there was a squabble saying he warned him against attacking Raila. He said, “How can he rough up a fellow man? I held him by his neck tie. Ask the Airport police. On Saturday, August 4, 2018, Echesa launched a scathing attack against the ODM leader. In a video that went viral, he said Raila is planning for his downfall noting that he wants him sacked. He warned the opposition leader to refrain from using the handshake to intimidate him and other government officials. He claimed the former Prime Minister met with leaders from his home turf planning how to oust him from the office for being a close ally of the deputy President William Ruto. He vowed to pledge his loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy but not Raila. “President Uhuru told us to embrace the handshake and that is exactly what we are doing, but it is like somebody somewhere wants now to take advantage of us embracing the handshake to come and intimidate us in the cabinet,” Echesa reiterated. But in retaliation, Odinga allies hit back at him for showing disrespect to veteran politicians. Nominated lawmaker Godfrey Osotsi issued the minister an ultimatum of 48 hours to apologize or he tables an impeachment motion against him in Parliament.
